Romania is one of Europe’s hidden gems. Due to it’s unpleasant political past, (Vlad the Impeller, Ceausescu), Romania has been slow to emerge into the twenty-first century. The country has retained its medieval charm and is a wonderful and “non-touristy” holiday destination. Romania offers some  fantastic ski deals.

Romania ski holidays in the Carpathian Mountains are becoming very popular for skiers from Great Britain, Western Europe, and America.

Romania offers skiers over forty ski destinations to choose from for their vacation, all of which are home to luxurious mountain resorts, great skiing, and an emerging and exciting nightlife scene.

Poiana Brasov is popular international ski resort and is wriiten about in ski journals all over the world. It offers 2 cable cars, one gondola and 7 ski-lifts The romanian resort of Busteni mountain resort is located near Sinaia at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains. There is very good snow fall from November.

It offers 2 cable cars to Babele and Pestera.
 
At the highest altitude in Romania there is Predeal, it is located between the Bucegi and the Baiului mountain range.
 
Azuga mounatin range resort is situated between Busteni and Predeal resorts. It offers the longest ski slope in Romania and offers a chair-lift with fantastic views.

Also in Romania there is a resort called Sinia which is known as the Carpathians Pearl. It is the oldest and known as one of the most scenic and beautiful resorts in Romania. Sinia also offer the best apres ski.

Lift Information

All of the Romania ski resorts have excellent lift systems for skiers. Many of the systems are new or newly updated for the surge of skiers coming into the country since the fall of Ceausescu. In an effort to attract more tourists the Romanian government has put huge sums of money into the Romania ski areas. Lifts are efficient and comfortable.

An example of the typical Romanian lift system can be seen at the Poiana Brasov Romania ski resort. The resort, like other Romanian ski resorts, offers chair lifts, gondolas, and drag lifts. A total of nine lifts make wait time unnecessary at the resort. All of the Romanian resorts now boast multiple lifts for holiday guests.

Lift ticket packages are available at all Romania ski resorts. Most resort guests will find they can purchase lift ticket packages when making their resort reservations. Several resorts even offer free lift passes to their guests.

Cross Country SkiingRomania ski resorts

Those looking for an adventure when they ski Romania should consider cross-country skiing. Several Romania ski outfitters, such as Vagabond Ski, offer cross-country ski packages. These exciting packages include several days of cross country skiing through Romania’s pine forests, visits to incredible attractions, overnights in traditional medieval villages, and delicious Romanian food.

Types of Accommodations

The best types of accommodations for those looking to ski Romania are found at Romania’s many ski resorts. With over forty ski locations the country has many resorts to choose from. Two of the most popular are Predeal and Poiana Brasov.

These resorts, similar to others found throughout Romania, offer luxurious accommodations, spa services, fantastic restaurants, and many bars and clubs. Staying at one of Romania’s ski resorts will give skiers the option of a ski in/ski out vacation and eliminate the need of transfers to and from the slopes. Accomodation is included with some fantastic ski deals.

Best Ways to Get There

The best way to get to Romania, and on to the Carpathian Mountains for outstanding skiing, is by plane. Many carriers fly non-stop into Bucharest from several European capitals.

Romania’s airline, Tarom, offers partner services with major airlines such as British Air and KLM which will allow guests on holiday to fly directly to the Henri Coanda International Airport. After arriving train service is available to Romania’s many ski destinations.

Après Ski

Those who come to ski Romania will also be interested in other activities available in the resort area. All the Romanian ski resorts located in the Carpathian Mountains are surrounded by medieval villages. Visits to these villages will allow guests to experience traditional Romanian life and visit the many castles, (Dracula’s castle is a very popular tourist site), medieval churches, and fortresses.

Romania is currently developing an exciting nightlife. Many bars and clubs are opening in and around the country’s ski resorts. From a quite pub to an exciting dance club, many types of entertainment can now be found at Romania’s ski resorts.
