Spain may not be the first place you think of when looking for a ski destination, but it is definitely worth your time to give it a try. Spain is a fabulous country with friendly and welcoming citizens.

Ski Resorts of Spain

Baqueira Beret in the Catalan Pyrenees is probably Spain's largest and most popular ski destination adn resort. It is located 200 km from Barcelona and 160 km from Toulouse in France.
  
Candanchu in the Aragon Pyrenees . Candanchu lies 385km from Barcelona which is the nearest international airport.
 
Cerler also in the Aragon Pyrenees is located some 230km from Zaragoza.  It is a only a small ski resort. great ski deals to be found.

Formigal in the Aragon Pyrenees and can be accessed from Pau which is one of budget airline RyanAir's popular destinations. It is a quiet but popular resort with the younger skiers.

La Molina in the Catalan Pyreneesis, Spain's oldest ski resort. La Molina offers great ski deals.

Masella in the Catalan Pyrenees and is the nearest resort to La Molina, it has become a popular day trip destination from Barcelona.

Panticosa in the Aragon Pyrenees is a friendly little resort lying 170km from Zaragoza. It is relatively new to the ski resorts of Spain.

Lift Information

All of Spain’s ski resorts offer numerous lift options for guests. When you arrive to ski Spain you will find little to no wait times for chair lifts, drag lifts, and gondolas. Each resort area has well maintained and state of the art chair lifts that can seat up to four people, great for your entire family.

The draglifts are grand for young skiers and children and the gondolas give excellent views of Spain’s stunning countryside.

All of Spain’s ski resorts offer lift packages with resort reservations. Several resorts allow guests a free day on the lifts with a stay of five nights. Ski schools include the price of the lift in their packages. Family passes are also available.

Cross Country SkiingSkiing in Spain

If you have come to ski Spain and are looking for some adventure you will want to book a cross-country ski experience. Cross-country ski tours can be booked from your resort. Guests have many options when choosing a cross-country ski package. You will find that all cross-country tours offer a guide and equipment. You can book tours from one to eight days. 

The incredibly beautiful Spanish landscape makes cross-country skiing a truly exciting experience. Tours go through Spain’s pine forests and across beautiful mountain passes.  

Types of Accommodations

Those who come to ski Spain will find five different and distinct areas. One of the most popular is the Sierra Nevada’s. The highest slopes in Spain are found here. The resorts of the Sierra Nevada’s are luxurious and well appointed. Ski equipment rentals and ski in/ski out options are available. Toward the end of the ski season guests can ski in the morning and sun in the afternoon on the Costa del Sol.

The Pyrenees Mountains are another popular Spain skiing resort area. Less economical than other Spanish ski resort areas, the Pyrenees offer lavish and exclusive ski resorts. The Pyrenees resorts are visited by many celebrities looking to avoid the spotlight of Europe’s better-known ski destinations.

If your family is on a budget you will still find you can ski Spain. On the outskirts of Madrid are three ski resorts, which offer budget family packages. La Rioja and Teruel also are great family destinations with budget skiing options. 

Best Ways to Get There

The best way to get to Spain is by plane. The airport you fly into will be determined by your Spain skiing destination. If you are headed toward the Sierra Nevada’s you will fly in to Granada.

The Pyrenees, situated on the border with France, can be accessed by France or Bilboa, Spain. Other ski resort destinations are served by Madrid’s international airport.
Resorts offer airport transfers and rental cars are available at all airports.

Après Ski

After a day of Spain skiing, you will find that the resorts offer an active nightlife scene. All of Spain’s ski resorts have quite bars and great restaurants along with dance clubs that allow guests to party into the morning hours.
